YouTube adds 48 hours of Video per Minute

youtube-logoAt the end of last year, YouTube announced that a whopping 35 hours of video footage were being added to the site per minute. That’s five years and nine months of video playback added per day.  And if that seems like a lot, the site announced Wednesday that it was receiving 48 hours of video per minute.

If this seems unlikely or staggering, consider the other statistics released Wednesday: At three billion views per day, YouTube attracts everything from amateur comedians, musicians, critics, and videobloggers to those who simply want movies and television shows on the site.

And when Google bought the site in 2006, YouTube was receiving only (and I’m using “only” in the relative sense, since it’s still a gargantuan amount of data) eight hours of video per minute.
